Pluto (the one that is no longer a planet)

Eden went to her cousin's birthday party.  They had cake and a few cupcakes.  Eden wanted a cupcake with those large, circle sprinkles on top.  She excitedly came up to me and said,

"Look at this cupcake!  It has little Plutos on it!  Pluto had babies!"

A side note:  Once upon a time Eden learned her planets.
Then we kind of forgot about most of them.
But her favorite was little Pluto...and then it was no longer a planet.
She refuses to believe its not a planet.

Raising Drama

Eden can be such a drama queen.

But I figure that it comes with being a girl....I know that I was the same way when I was little.

The other day, we took a trip to Target and I ended up buying a dollar gift for each of the girls.  Eden wanted these princess rings.  She had ballet later that night and I told her that she shouldn't wear them because they could fall off (they were quite loose on her fingers).  But she INSISTED on wearing one.  I told her, "OK, but if you notice that it gets hard to hold on to the ring then give it to the teacher so you don't lose it."  She agreed.

She ended up giving it to the teacher.

And we forgot the ring and left after ballet class.

After all sorts of drama in the car, there was a little silence...and then....

(Eden starts crying a little)
Eden:  "I'm trying not to cry but I left my ring with my teacher
The only think with me are my hot candies,
my blankie, and my tiny little tears!"

"Handful"

Instead of using the words "a lot" Leila uses the word "handful".

"There's a handful cars outside!"
"Me want handful treat treats."

Movie Time with Eden

Eden and I had a late night mommy/daughter movie night.

Eden chose out Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

It was quite entertaining to hear what Eden had to say...

(Snow White first comes to the dwarfs house and nobody is home)
"Snow White just walked into their house
cause she's a princess and can do that.
I can't just walk into people's houses."

(Snow White is cleaning the cottage)
"Everything there is made of wood.
There is no carpet.
If they walk around barefoot, they will get slivers."

(The dwarves sneak up the stairs to see Snow White upstairs)
"Look at their stairs!
They need to be careful cause they have no railing.
They may fall!"

Edenish

Eden has developed a new language (both written and spoken) which she has come to call "Edenish".  She often tells me how to say and write things in Edenish.  She also says that she wants to go door to door teaching people her language.

Milking It For All Its Worth

(Leila hits her head on the fireplace)
(Cries)
Leila:  "Need bandaid mom!"
Mom:  "You can't put a bandaid between your eyes.  Want some ice?"
Leila:  "Yeah.  Need ice!"
Mom:  "OK."
(Gets ice)
Leila: (sad face) "Need movie.  Make it feel better."
Mom:  "You need a movie to help it feel better?"
Leila: (sad face) "Yeah....WonderPets....save the goldfish."
(Mom laughs a little...and decides to turn it on for her)
Leila: (sad face) "And need b." (blankie)
(Mom gets her b)
Leila: (sad face) "And soft b."  (another soft blanket on her bed)
Mom:  "No.  I think you're ok now."

Missing Daddy

Leila says pretty much every day...

"Daddy...pick up me...Tuesday."
(or another random day)

Old People

Me and Leila were playing on the swings.

Leila:  "Underdog!"
Me:  "OK."
(Push her and go back to my swing)
(Twist myself on the swing)
(Leila looks at me)
Leila:  "No twist mom.  You old people.  Get dizzy."

Leila Drama

Everything that Leila says and does is dramatic.

Examples...

"Hurt...BAD!  Need ice!"
"Me CRY!" (throw head back and fake cry)
"Eden share....NEVER NEVER NEVER!"
"OH!  Found mama!  LOVE mama!" (give hug)
"See daddy...say SURPRISE!" (surprised face)

A New Baby

Eden and her cousin, McKell, were playing "having babies".

She came upstairs saying,

"Mom!  I had a baby!  I just pushed it out!"

When We Take Naps

(I made a puppet and was talking to Eden with the puppet)

Puppet:  "Hi.  What's your name?"
Eden:  "Eden Finlinson."
Puppet:  "Oh, what are you doing?"
Eden:  "Just playing."
Puppet: "Where's your sister?"
Eden:  "She's taking a nap....cause she was being dramatic."

Nighttime Noises

At library story time, they talked about bedtime.

The librarian posed a question...

"What keeps you up at night?"

Eden's response for all to hear...

"When mommy does the dishes in the night and I'm trying to sleep."

Love You

Leila can be such a stinker sometimes, but other times she melts my heart.

One of her new favorite songs is the primary song, "Mother Dear" and can sing it.

And then she occasionally will come up to me during the day, give me a big hug, and say,

"Love you...MUCH."

Even When You're Pregnant

When Eden talks to me, she will sometimes add a little phrase at the end of her sentence...

"....even when you're pregnant."

The ones I can remember off the top of my head are...
"Mom...I love you so much....even when you're pregnant."

and after she dressed me up all pretty and did my hair she said,

"Dad is going to think you are so pretty.
He'll want to be with your forever!
...Even when you're pregnant."

How sweet...kind of.

Leila's Favorite Number

Leila is really into counting...it usually goes like this...

"1...2...3...4...5...6...(sometimes she forgets 7)...8...9...10...18"

But if you ask her what her favorite number is...

"89!"

Why?  I'm not sure.  But she often says it, especially when looking at the thermostat.

Underwear

Eden has a pair of undies that she thinks are SO beautiful.  They are white with lace and a little bow in front.  The other day she wanted to wear them.  Where she exclaimed,

"Mom, these panties so beautiful.
They are white and clean!
I think they represent the Spirit of God."

Chinese

Eden was drawing squiggly lines on a paper...

Eden: "Mom.  I'm writing something."
Mom:  "What are you writing?"
Eden:  "Well, its kind of hard for you to read...cause I'm kind of Chinese."

Leila's Baby

Dad pretended to sit on Leila while she was lying on the bed.

Leila:  "NO DAD! OFF!"
Dad:  "Oh, I can't sit here?"
Leila:  "No.  Baby!"
(Points to belly)
Dad:  "You don't have a baby in there."
Leila:  "Food baby."

Mr. Rogers

One day we found Mr. Rogers episodes on Hulu.  The girls watched one early morning when we weren't quite ready to get up.

The next day Eden wanted to wear her sweater jacket....and after zipping it up said,

"Look!  I'm just like Mr. Rogers!"

Post Check Up

Eden was so excited to go back to all her doctor's appointments after the whole osteomyelitis experience.

Before we went she told me,
"Everyone is going to be so excited to see me back again!"

Whenever she saw someone walking around the hospital that looked like a doctor or nurse she would smile and say,
"Hi!  I'm back!"
"I stayed here cause I had an IV!"

Woopies

Leila has been doing a lot more talking.  She often says things like "eat food", "me too", "hurt. cry."  She also loves to count and say her colors.

But she often mis-says words.  Tyson and my favorite word is when she does something and is saying, "Oopsie!"  But she'll say,

"Woopies!"

Bullying the Baby

Eden and Leila already bully the new, unborn baby.

Eden LOVES to read my week by week emails from baby center on how big my baby is.  She loves the videos of how my baby is growing.

Last week on baby center it said that the baby can react to light.  If you shine a light on my belly, the baby will move to the other side of my belly.

Eden finds this a fun game.

She grabs her flashlight and will shine in on my belly.  Then on another part of my belly.  And so on.

Leila will occasionally "squish" the baby by sitting on me or climbing on me and I'll say "Oh careful!  You're squishing the baby!"  She finds that funny....and she'll start squishing on purpose.

Hope this is preparing the baby for REAL life with this kids!

Officially Four

After turning four....Eden had quite a few episodes where she was in denial of having turned four.

"I'm only THREE!  I know it!"
"I know because I still can't reach things on the top shelf!"
"I'm NOT four!"

But officially now after a month of being four, she'll say that she's four and not three.  Apparently something changed her mind and she is now OK being four.

Love

After hitting Eden with a toy, Leila was sent to time out.

After time out we did our normal "say sorry and give her a hug".

They ended up having a BIG squeeze where they both started to laugh until they fell over.

They continued to play the hugging game.  And after they fell again, still in a hug, Eden said,

"Oh!  We fell back into love!"

Dr. Eden

There were a few days where I had really bad morning sickness.  Eden was a very good doctor.

Eden:  "Mom, you can come to my doctor's office."
(points to the bathroom)
Eden:  "It even has a place for you to sit in case you need to throw up."
(points to the floor next to the toilet)
(mom gladly sits with her head by the toilet)
Eden:  "Now let me look inside of you."
(takes a mirror and looks down at me)
Eden:  "I think I see the problem...you're pregnant."
Mom:  "Ohhh..."
Eden:  "I don't see anything accept your baby in there."
Mom:  "Can you tell if its a boy or a girl."
Eden:  "No cause it doesn't have any hair yet."
(since girls obviously have long hair and boys have short hair)

Then the next day I was taking a bath and she came inside.

Eden:  "Mom.  Sorry you're not feeling very good."
Mom:  "Thanks Eden."
Eden:  "I think you need some tubby toys."
Mom:  "That's a good idea.  Do you want to get me some?"
Eden:  "Yeah.  I'll go get your my two FAVORITE ones."
(She comes back with two tubby toys)

I must say, Eden's really good with people who are sick and older people.

Totally Different Children

While playing in the tub Eden was pretending to serve me food (so of course Leila had to do the same).  Although, WHAT they were serving was completely different...and TOTALLY them.

Eden was serving me ice cream (cause she loves ice cream).
Leila was serving me meat (cause she loves meat).

Other things that make them different...

Eden at Leila's age was always cautious, talkative, and loves everyone type...

Leila is active to the point of dangerous, doesn't do much talking, and is selective of who she loves (or even befriends, smiles at, doesn't panic by...) but when she loves you then you KNOW she loves you.

Counting and Numbers

Leila now counts to ten (often missing the number 7) and knows the colors blue (her favorite), purple, red, white, black, brown, green, yellow, and pink.

Smells

Daddy took Eden into the shed where they keep the lawnmower, gardening tools, etc.

Eden went in there and came out saying,

"It smells like boy in there!"

She went in the shed with dad a few days later and I spotted her sticking her head out of the door.

(Taking deep breaths.)
Eden: "Phew.  Smells like BOY in there!"
(Gets out of the shed.)
Eden:  "That's MUCH better."

Apparently boys smell like grass clippings and gasoline.

Baby Name

Eden decided on a name if the new baby is a girl...

Ilon Ice Finlinson

(said eye-lon)

Let's hope this baby's a boy...

New Baby

Mom: "Eden. I have a secret."
Eden: "What is it?!"
Mom: "I have a baby in my belly."
Eden: "No you don't!" (disbelieving smile)
Mom: "Yes I do. I'm pregnant!"
(Eden's face gets serious)
Eden: "But I only wanted ONE sister!"

Guess we gotta work on sisterly love in our house....

Singing and Dancing

Should I be worried that my kids favorite dance moves are YMCA and the Robot?

Not to mention that today, randomly, both Eden and Leila started singing, "Ice Ice Baby"....

(p.s. I don't listen to YMCA, Mr. Roboto, and Ice Ice Baby...the dance and song came from my ward talent show act.)

Communication

Eden often has a hard time interacting with Leila and talking with Leila (I figure its because she feels that since she doesn't talk back that she doesn't understand).

But lately Eden's been a doing a bit better.

After a bit of listening...I think I can see why Eden likes talking to Leila...

Eden: (Says something random)
(Leila continues to play)
Eden: "Leila. Laugh."
Leila: "HAHAHAHA!"
Eden: "Leila, you think I am SO FUNNY!"

Also I've noticed Eden telling Leila things to say all the time and Leila will just copy what Eden tells her to say. She doesn't do that for me or Tyson too much, but she'll usually always do it for Eden.

Okay, I Can Take A Hint

Whenever I give Leila a piece of paper and something to write with...I guarantee that one thing will happen.

She'll want me to draw something for her.

A family....our family.

"Mom"
"Dad"
"EeeEee." (Eden)
"Me" or "YeaYa" (Leila)
"Baby"

She ALWAYS wants me to draw a picture of our family...with another baby in it.

Okay, I get the hint.

Leila LOVES babies. And apparently she doesn't feel our family will be complete without one.

Stylin'

We were going to the park.

Eden said she had to get ready and came out wearing a crown and sunglasses. She looked at her reflection on the car and struck a pose.

Mom: "Man, you're a superstar!"
Eden: "No, I'm just a princess that's stylin'."

Well said.

Feeding Tube

We got slushies during happy hour at Sonic.

Eden was drinking through a straw, when she stopped and said,

"Mom. Its kind of like a feeding tube. Except it goes in your mouth."

Only my child would compare straws to feeding tubes.

Playing Veterinarian

I couldn't help but smile when I saw these two playing veterinarian together.

Monday, February 27, 2012

Ebola and Malaria

Eden's back to wanting to learn all about diseases and parasites.

A few weeks ago she learned about the Ebola virus and loved it.

The week after we started reading about malaria and it scared her to death.

Ebola: Eats all your internal organs, through your skin, makes you bleed out your mouth and eyeballs, eats through your brain until you can't remember anything and go crazy, you need to be put into solitary confinement because it is highly contagious and kills you after 2 weeks.

Malaria: You get it from mosquitoes. That's as far as we got through that book before she was too scared to read further.

Sleeping Naked

For the past week or so, Leila will kindly go to bed at night.

Then when I leave the room, she'll take off her pajamas and sleep in only a diaper.

Last night she decided that even her diaper was too much to sleep it.

She woke up in the middle of the night with a naked bummie and wet blankets and sheets.

Leila's Song

Leila started singing a song....It went like this....

"Dad! Dad! Dad! *kiss*"

Eden's Valentine

I was teaching preschool for Valentines.

Me: "Who knows what today is?"
Eden: "Valentines Day!"
Me: "Right! Why do we celebrate Valentines Day?"

(Blank stares from kids)
Me: "Its a day to remember to show people that we love them."

Me: "Who are some people we love?"
Roman: "Our family!"
Eden: "Roman!"
Me: "Our family and friends. Exactly."

Me: "So, how do we show that we love them?"
(Quiet)
Me: "We can do nice things for them....give hugs and kisses."
(Eden runs over and kisses Roman)

Later that day....

Me: "Eden. Do you like Roman?"
Eden: "Yeah. He's a good boyfriend."

But in her defense I do think she meant "a boy that's a friend". She also named others boys that were friends.

Love Letters

Eden was "writing letters" on Nana's iPhone.

(pushing random keys)

"Dear Nana,
I love you.
I know because I feel it
deep within my heart.
I also love mermaids.
Love, Eden"

Leila's Colors

Leila doesn't know how to say many words yet. But there is one color that she can recognize and say.

"PURPLE!"

Classical Music

Eden and I listened to some classical music the other day and I was talking to her about the different instruments and composers. A few days later we drew some pictures of instruments (we looked them up online). She was really into learning the few instruments we talked about.

A week or so later Eden and I went to a neighbor's house to return something. I talked while she played with toys.

Eden: "Mom! Look what I found?!"
(I look over and she's holding a recorder)
Eden: "Its an OBOE!"

She was thrilled.

Zucchini

During dinner Eden pointed at a zucchini....

Eden: "What's that?"
Mom: "Its a zucchini."
(Gives a skeptical look at the zucchini.)
Mom: "It's deliciousness!"
Eden: "No. It's sadness."

When I Grow Up

Eden's been really into pedestrian signs lately. She always looks out for them and tells me that I need to watch for pedestrians and stop for them.

The other day she told me...

"Mom, when I grow up, I want to be a pedestrian."

I had to explain that she's already a pedestrian.
